The research programme Acting in an emergency. Rethinking design agency during (and after) covid-19 (AELE, 2021-2023), a project currently underway and the starting point of this issue of Immaterial, incidentally oscillates between these two extremes: the analysis of the function of design during the present crisis – no longer just a health crisis – and the value of thinking about it all in a truly contemporary way, in the manner proposed by Agamben, separating ourselves slightly from the present scenario.
