Joan Maroto-Sales PhD

My name is Joan Maroto-Sales, I am an architect. I hold a PhD in Architectural Projects and an MA in Theory and Practice of the Architectural Project, both from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). I am a professor of the Degree in Design, of the Master’s Degree in Design Research. I am also a tutor of the Digital Fabrication Workshop and the coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Interior Design at BAU, College of Arts and Design of Barcelona.

I am also a collaborator of the GREDITS research group.

I research about the rethinking of agencies of all the actors involved in design and architecture processes; in the disciplinary field (architecture and design as relational and/or performative devices), in pedagogy (the project as a field of experimentation, relational pedagogies, spaces and pedagogical practices), in material practices (matter and technology as vehicles and spring of experimentation), and in transversal fields (ecologies of knowledge, practices, tools, and spaces).

I supervise doctoral theses that investigate scenarios, aesthetics and politics resulting from the rethinking of agencies in design processes.
