Luis Guerra PhD

My name is Luis Guerra, I am a visual artist and Aesthetics, Art Theory and PhD Program professor at BAU. I also teach Aesthetics within the Master of Contemporary Thought and Classical Tradition at the Philosophy Department of the University of Barcelona.

I hold a BA and an MA in Visual Arts from the University of Chile and a PhD in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). I completed postdoctoral studies at CfAR Centre for Artistic Research, The University of the Arts Helsinki. I was artist-in-residence at Centro de Estudios Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (2015-2016), Kunstverein Stuttgart (2015), La Virreina Centre de las Imatge (2017-2018), Saastamoinen Foundation (2020) and Kone Foundation (2020).

As a visual artist with a PhD in philosophy, professor and researcher, my work gravitates around the imaginary line that Western culture has created between art and philosophy. In this sense, my postdoctoral studies in artistic research centered on the thought of the French pedagogue Fernand Deligny have been the starting point of a new research cycle (2017-2021). This research cycle has led me to work with and through the invisible, the minor and the disappeared, mapping their forms through gestures outside of a fixed grid.

I currently supervise doctoral theses related to research based on design and art practices. I also supervise Philosophy Master Theses on topics related to contemporary art, art history, critical theory, architecture and design.
