Mireia Feliu PhD

My name is Mireia Feliu Fabra, I am a multimedia artist, researcher, professor and the coordinator of the Projects Department at BAU, College of Arts and Design of Barcelona. I hold a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (UB), an MA in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York, a PhD in Fine Arts also from the UB, and I am an accredited lecturer by the AQU.

My current research departs from my Doctoral Thesis project In-quietuds. Nomadismes Contemporanis . The research is about the concept of nomadism, investigated from the artistic practice, philosophy and contemporary art, as well as from different life experiences that involve a state of constant displacement or disposition to it. Taking Rosi Braidotti’s thought as a main reference, nomadic subjectivity is proposed as a committed consciousness that refuses the centralized, codified and pre-established organization, in order to propose new strategies of effective and affective action based on the evolution of a journey: commitment, adaptability, dialogue, malleability, recognition of heterogeneity, experiential thinking… This type of approach has led me to an interest in project methodologies inspired by systemic logic, social sciences and, in particular, by ethnology.

Languages I work with as an artist and researcher are usually linked to the audiovisual, photography, engraving, installation and writing. For the development of my research I have received grants and support such as the “la Caixa” Foundation Grant, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, Diapason Gallery Residency (New York), Espais Foundation Grant Award and Mobility Grants for Artists from the Ramon Llull Institute.
