Rebecca G. Mutell PhD

My name is Rebecca Mutell, I am an associate professor in the Art department at BAU, College of Arts and Design of Barcelona. I am also the coordinator of the Culture department and a member of GREDITS, Design and Social Transformation Research Group at the same center. I hold a BA in Fine Arts, with a major in Image from the University of Barcelona (UB). I obtained my PhD at the same university with the thesis entitled “Atrapando la luz. Origen y materialidad de la fotografía”, for which I was awarded the extraordinary doctorate prize of the University of Barcelona.

In the field of research, I focus on exploring the phenomenology of the photographic image from its mythical and scientific dimension, investigating its technical and iconological precedents, focusing on the enormous cultural and cognitive transformation that this medium represents. My research develops in both exhibition and publication forms.

I supervise doctoral theses related to the world of the image that explore the limits of visual representation and experiment with new languages.
